Wimbledon has a well deserved reputation for being one of London's leafiest suburbs. Home to the All England Lawn Tennis Club which has staged the world's premier tennis tournament since the late 1870's, Wimbledon, is of course, also where the 'Wombles' resided! Aside from the two weeks of tourist mayhem during the championships, Wimbledon is a haven of fresh air and village country life, with a 1000 acres of common, golf courses and riding stables. It is hard to imagine that you are really in London. The village high street is well known for its fashion boutiques and boasts a range of eateries from Pizza Express to The Dog and Fox, one of Wimbledon's oldest pubs. Just down the hill, Wimbledon Town offers all the amenities that one needs - a shopping centre, supermarkets, leisure facilities, two theatres, cinemas, schools and a main line train station. Wimbledon is a commuters dream and is a perfect base for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of central London after a long day at work.
