About us

People have an affinity or a 'pull' to a certain area for a reason.  It could be because your friends live there, you want to start a family and are looking for somewhere that has great schools, it's near the river or it's central for work - the list is endless.

London is an extraordinary place and is made up little 'pockets', each of which has its own charm and idiosyncrasies.  These little villages are what makes it such a unique and exciting place to live.  But what makes us stay is the feeling of belonging and being a part of something.

Most of us do have a sense of community whether it be on a small or grand scale and we are aware of certain aspects of the community that directly relate to us.  With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to not only find a way to get people sharing information and engaging with each other in one place but provide somewhere where people can support small local businesses, get involved in local groups as well as discover and learn about new things in their area, even things that are happening on their own street!

Having looked around, we felt that there was nothing like this out there, a site that was approaching it from the real grass roots level with content contributed by the locals for the locals.  YourLocal London was born.

We have put together a website that provides a genuine snapshot of what's going on where and encourages people to contribute, engage with each other and share information so that other people and businesses can benefit.  We want local people to use our website as a great resource so that they can get out and about in their the local community.

To get each local community started and taking part, we needed to find local people to help build and stimulate content.  We believe that the very people who tend to be best placed to do this are women at home looking for flexible working hours.  Not only are they an untapped and talented resource but by default, they are usually 'plugged in' to their local community.  We are very proud of our growing army of women who have stepped up to the challenge and are helping to make YourLocal London the site for Londonders to go to and get to know their local nieghbourhood.

It's been an exciting journey. Each local website has it's own personality and a real community feel because the content is created by the very people who live there. It has a personal touch that we believe is lacking in a great many other sites and we have put together a simple architecture that offers all the sorts of things that local people want to know or use.

But the journey has only just begun.  We hope you enjoy it and please feel free to give us feedback on your own thoughts, likes and dislikes about the site.  YourLocal London will be constantly evolving and it is your input that will help us improve, adapt and build it.  We are confident it will become the natural place for Londoners to visit and really get the most out of where they live.
