Much as we love something shiny and new to look at, or somewhere warm and buzzing to fritter away hours we can't really spare, and we even enjoyed feeling slightly smug towards our friends in other outreaches of London, we local residents are now paying the price for having Westfield on our doorstep - parking! I tried to visit friends in Macfarlane Road recently and for one reason or another, was driving rather than walking. After 20 minutes of driving around the streets between Uxbridge and Goldhawk Roads, plus all the side streets to the north, I concluded there wasn't a single legal parking space between my house and theirs. I had to drive home, where there was no longer anywhere legal to park and start the journey from scratch. It seems the council are having to take urgent measures to bring in tougher parking restrictions close to Westfield but if you have concerns, join the local residents meeting on Thursday at Shepherd's Bush town Hall, 7pm.
