We had a street party in our street at the weekend and it was brilliant!

I really would urge anyone in a quietish street or no-through road to think about doing the same when the weather gets warmer. Having lived in my street for 10 years, I still met many new people and the children played outside all day until it was bathtime! The Play Association will lend you giant outdoor games and face painting equipment - then all you need to do is bring out a table and a dish of food, and some bunting if you've got it, and voila - the rest of the day takes care of itself. Oh yes, and you have to apply to the council to close the street for the day and get everyone to move their car but that's not too tricky on a Sunday.
