I know it's not strictly speaking a local event, but it is in London - this has to be the most fun charity run I've heard of - the Great Gorilla Run!
Now in its fifth year, on Saturday 27 September, over 1000 fur-clad fun-runners will take the the streets in the Great Gorilla Run 2008. You read it right - all runners must wear a gorilla costume, courtesy of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, yours to accessorise and keep for posterity. The run itself covers a 7km stretch - you may be a bit sweaty by the end but you'll have benefitted The Gorilla Organisation and saved one of the planet's most endangered species with your fundraising efforts.
