Peckham

There are now 3 contrasting parts of schizophrenic Peckham. To the south, the original Georgian bone-structure of the Rye, shading off peacefully towards Dulwich. To the north, the brave new world of enviable attractive homes and then the current reconstruction of what was London's largest and grimmest council estate.

To the south, the 18th century landscape or Peckham Rye and its attendant Victorian rows has leapt in price. Its surpisingly pretty and spacious houses set in green surroundings are increasinly sought by refullees from pricier tracts further west. The mature supurb filled with respectable streets of solid homes have more in common with Dulwich and Forest Hill than they do with Peckham proper on the other side of the tracks.
