Talking signs for Islington's parks

Posted on 22/8/09 by Lucy (No comments)

Talking signs are to be installed in parks to give wildlife information to visitors, according to the Evening Standard.

More than 300 will be placed in 115 open spaces in Islington, including six parks, by the end of next month.

The sound is generated by winding a handle, making the technology environmentally friendly. Each device plays two three-minute messages.

The signs in Highbury park list the types of trees, give directions to the swimming pool and detail the history of the war memorial.

The audio signs are voiced by Taggart actor John Michie and students from Highbury Fields school.

Councillor Ruth Polling said: "Islington is home to a number of wonderful parks and green spaces and these new signs make them even more special."
