Islington man speaks out about 'extreme' TV show

Islingtonian camera man Ed Wardle has spoken for the first time about his experiences in Canada's Yukon wilderness. He finally asked to be rescued after 50 days in the extreme landscape where he was living as part of a Channel 4 survival show.

He told the Mirror"I went for a wash at the lake one day and I saw my body. I realised then that I had been kidding myself. I thought I could make it through but could see the weight had disappeared and my bones were sticking out.

"My heart rate had dropped to just 30 beats a minute and I realised I had to leave or else I would be in serious trouble. I had been living off a meal every two days. The berries had gone and I was eating roots and the occasional fish or rabbit I caught."

The adventurer was filming a documentary, Alone In The Wild, which aimed to chart his progress as he spent three months alone. Channel 4 have been criticised by Media Watch who described the show as a "pretty foolish enterprise".
