I met with Elizabeth Hepworth last week, an East Sheen resident who has a considerable artistic talent (perhaps not surprising as she is a descendent of the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. An ex-
Sheen Mount and Shene School pupil, she is now training as a painter at Wimbledon College of Art. Ever since she
was a toddler, Elizabeth has always loved art and it is all that she has ever wanted to do. Alongside her current
studies she has, for the past 2 years, had a studio above the toyshop, Pandemonium, on Sheen Lane where she
paints, draws and does her photography in what used to be a stockroom!

This will be Elizabeth's first solo show and she is particularly passionate about it as she likes the idea that
people will be able to see where the art is actually created - and whilst the show is on, the studio will remain
active and Elizabeth will be painting and working there at the same time. In her previous group exhibitions
Elizabeth has only been able to submit 1-3 highly polished pieces and she is delighted that this open studio
exhibition allows her to be able offer background artwork - drawings, sketches, paintings and photographs. Her
approach to photography is spontaneous and unedited; she describes it as "an immediate visual diary of her
surroundings, details and oddities often left unnoticed". One of her paintings is so large (6 foot in diameter)
that she couldn't even get it up the stairs but she is lucky to be able to exhibit it next door in Printfolio and
Bumbles.

Last year Elizabth first became involved with the ARThouse Open Studios Festival - when she had a piece exhibited with the Vernon Hall Drawing Group. And this year the organisers approached her to open her own studio - which she was delighted to do. And if this goes well, she is considering opening the studio on a more regular basis. ARThouse 2009 is based over two weekends and Elizabeth's studio will be open June 26th (6pm-9pm), 27th and 28th (11am-5pm) and July 3rd (6pm-9pm), 4th and 5th (11am-5pm). She would love to see as many people as possible at her studio and hopes that there will be something for everyone there - she also takes commissions (a couple will be on show at the exhibition) so you can also have a truely unique piece.

Please go along and support her if you can, address is: 125A Sheen Lane, East Sheen, London SW14 8AE. For more information see her Local Groups page.
