COME CRAWLING!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's that time of year again when Camden is taken over for the Crawl. Love it or hate it it’s just around the corner and this year promises to be even more jam packed then before. They’ll be everything from gigs and comedy to spoken word and film shorts.
THE FACTS:
The event runs from midday Friday 24th – Saturday 25th April
150 artists and special guests taking part
It spans over a mile and a half of Camden
Over 40 venues taking part (the Roundhouse joins the roster for the first time)
So, as locals it’s going be hard to miss but with so many different things to see, even if loud and live music isn’t your cuppa, poetry slamming or short films may well be.
In keeping with Crawl tradition and the spirit of discovery, the full line-ups and stage times remain a closely guarded secret until each night and surprise guests may appear at any time and at any venue. However I have been told that local legends Madness will be performing some secret gigs, which will be open to everyone (we’ll keep you posted), Man Like Me will be making an appearance of course (see ‘Local lads' post), along with heavy weights Kasabian, The Enemy, plus electro/grime/dub/pop tour de force GoldieLocks and local swingin' talent Kitty Daisy & Lewis.
As a local, I have to admit that I’ve only skirted round the edges of the Crawl in previous years, not really getting involved but approaching it like another really busy Sunday in Camden (taking back streets to get anywhere and muttering at people under my breath). This year I will be jumping in with both feet. Why? Because it’s a great time as a Camdener to indulge in a two-day extravaganza, encompassing all that Camden is: arty, edgy and unique. I am willing to cough up for a ticket (even a 2 day pass at that), ignore all the corporate sponsorship and stick to the smaller, lesser-known events and venues, rubbing shoulders with locals and making friends as I go about discovering new things. Ok, maybe I'm being slightly idealistic. I am aware that most ‘crawlers’ won’t be locals (and probably half my age) but I fully intend to soak up the atmosphere, get involved in things I’ve never tried (Who Killed Bambi music quiz and Speed hating sound good to me) and start as many random conversations as I can to find out from my fellow crawlers why they crawl (I’ll let you know how that goes).
With so much going on, it’s hard to do it all justice on here but pop back next week and have some more exciting things for you look out for and get involved in. In the meantime, for tickets, more information and the full run down of events click here
