A classy pop-up

This weekend is your last chance to head down to 46 Camden Road and catch 'A Touch of Class' at one of Camden's very own creative pop-ups shops.

Since 29th June and ending on Sunday 12th July, four Camden-based artists have been exhibiting their work here (following on from photographer Anthony Epes' 'London at Dawn' collection). I went down to take a look and was both intrigued and surprised by some of the works...

"Strip light shuffle" by Mark Davey is a gasp and giggle-provoking number, while his gorgeous, sequinned "Members only" butterfly overwhelms as you walk in the door and wouldn't look out of place at a festival.

Downstairs his "Rim job" is slightly darker - a lightbult scratching round and round the inside of a steel drum, while "I said I love you" made me smile.

Candida Williams' "Twist and Shout" pieces are also rather attractive structures, made from wood and scraps of material. Jenny Rush's "Cupboard Love" is an accurate portrayal of typical English etiquette becoming ridiculous in the strangest of situations, while Thomas Yeomans' "Tense Alignment (after Le Grice)" seems to be a kind of ode to washing lines...

This is one of Camden Town Unlimited's innovative ideas for keeping Camden culture buzzing and business thriving, even in the face of shop closures.

The shop at 22 Chalk Farm Road has played host to laptop composer Stephen Crowe and fashion graduates from Scotland. This particular pop-up will be open for just a wee while longer, so get down there and watch this space for more openings!

We are trying to get something like this going on the Roman Road in an empty shop unit or two - there are plenty to choose from !
