Golders Green

Until not so very long ago there were still people living in North-West London who could remember the crossroads at Golders Green as being in the middle of open farmland, with a signpost pointing south 'To London'. The farmland is gone but the signpost remains, resolutely pointing down the Finchley Road.

The rural seclusion gave way as the tube bored its way through from beneath Hampstead Heath in 1907. Golders Green is the sort of place that once here, people stay either upgrading or downsizing through their life. Here you can get a house with a garden, and a place to park, in leafy streets with good schools nearby - and still be close enough to Hampstead to drop over for coffee and within reach of the West End.
