For all those

I regularly take my one year old up there to the children’s play area, and whilst the playground is great, so much more could be made of the pavillion and surrounding area. This is where the Friends come in, they have already organised the painting of the Pavilion and Kiosk, as well as getting the toilets refurbished. They are also in communication with the Planning Department to try and accelerate the future use of the pavilion!

As well as the children’s playground, there are many opportunities to play sport at Palewell Common – golf, tennis (both of which offer discounts to members), boules, and very soon, volley ball are all on offer.

Palewell Common has also been recognised as one of the best open spaces in the country and has won a Green Flag Award, which is a great achievement. There is still more to be done though and the Friends are focusing on safety and security in the area as well as encouraging people (especially dog walkers) to clear up after their dogs.

On August 17th the Friends organised a very successful work day where paths were cleared and some dead trees removed and they are planning another day later this year. They are also looking to organise another social event at the Common in early October where there will be a BBQ/picnic and sporting events on offer. They are also hoping that Tasha Hunter will be available to lead nature walks in the area. They need some help to organise and run the event, so if you have some free time, please call Francis Rowland (the Chairman of the Friends of Palewell Common and Fields) on 020 8274 0871.
