Grass roots and back to basics

Most of us do have a sense of community whether it be on a small or grand scale.  With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to not only find a way to get people sharing information and engaging with each other in one place but provide somewhere where people can support small local businesses, get involved in local groups as well as discover and learn about new things in their area, even things that are happening on their own street. 

YourLocal London (YLL) was founded by two young(ish) women who felt that there was nothing like this out there that was approaching things from a real grass roots level with content contributed by the locals for the locals.  YourLocal London was born.

YLL is about providing an online meeting place where people can feel immediately connected to their local community. Where they can share, learn, take part in and contribute to all things local. We have put together a website that provides a genuine snapshot of what's going on where and encourages people to contribute, engage with each other and share information so that other people and businesses can benefit.   

Every pocket of London has its’ own personality and flavour and that's exactly what makes it so special.  It's the people and places that give each area it's own identity.  Our content is honest, trustworthy and truly local because of the people who engage with us.  They are at the very heart of each community and it is our individual local editors and the local contributors who are the friendly faces that give a true reflection of local life. 

Our strapline 'Sharing local life' reflects everything that YourLocal London is all about.  It’s about inclusion, finding out more about where you live, enjoyment, making new friends and local connections.  All the sorts of things that make people feel a part of something.  Having a sense of community really does matter, it’s important to all of us.  We not only need it, we all want it in some capacity or other as it makes wherever we live, work or socialise more than just a place.  A site like YourLocal London helps us realise just that.

But the journey has only just begun.  We hope you enjoy it and please feel free to give us feedback on your own thoughts, likes and dislikes about the site.  YourLocal London will be constantly evolving and it is your input that will help us improve, adapt and build it.  We are confident that it will become the natural place for Londoners to visit and really get the most out of where they live.

Why register your details on the site?

By registering some very basic details you can really make the most out of the site.  There is so much you can access, follow, learn from and enjoy by becoming a registered user.  You can save anything on the site to 'My stuff' whether it's an event, a person, a local group or a business that you are interested in either following, joining or keeping for a later date.  You can even email other like minded people that you share an interest with or want to learn something from.

Everyone has something they can contribute that other people won't know about so by becoming a registered user, you too can contribute and share your local knowledge with others.  It's your contribution that makes YourLocal London so unique so don't be afraid to get involved.  It's easy!

Who is it for?

It’s for anyone who lives in or is visiting London.  There is no age limit, no barriers to entry.  It’s what we hope will be a natural resource for anyone who wants to get a real feel for a local community and what it has to offer.
