What better way to start the day than a catch up with the lovely Sean Lock...

How long have you lived in Bow?

I moved here in '99.

What attracted you to East London?

I was living in South East London and my partner worked in town.  There are much better transport links here, and the price of houses.  I could only afford prices like those in SE London.

What keeps you here?

We are very near town, the park, canals and the natives are friendly.  It's a very pleasant place to live, not heavy.  If you lived in the provinces you would probably think it's a war zone but I have never had any problems.  And you can go out at 2am and get beer, and cardamon and nappies.

I used to watch the weekend football in the park, on my run.  There were some good bruising encounters.  I didn't watch the whole 90 minutes, 10 was enough, quite diverting.

I try to use the local shops.  In fact I hardly ever use the big supermarkets.  There's the fish stall and fruit n veg stall (Globe Town Market) and the butcher, Roberts (Brian Roberts Butchers).  You can get all the spices from the Turkish, Chinese, Vietnamese supermarkets.  You can cook anything from thai curry to toad-in-the-hole without leaving a two mile radius.

I was talking to the fish guy a couple of years ago.  There was a really big heat wave that summer, really sweltering hot.  'How are you?' I asked him.  He said 'I know how Jesus Christ felt.'  I thought he was refering to all the fish.  So I said 'What feeding the five thousand?'  'No- crucified!' I looked down.  There's all the ice melting and no-one buying fish.

What are your top 3 places to go in the area?

The Morpeth pub - good for football and a very friendly pub.  Pavillion Cafe - nice food, jolly people.  The Turkish supermarket on Roman Road (Buy 2 Save) - for late night beer, good people in there.

Is there anything you would improve?

I don't understand - the athletics track changing rooms burnt down 9 or 10 years ago - the park generates lots of cash but the council still has not bothered to put up new changing rooms.  We are 10 minutes from the Olympic stadium...  And there isn't a permanent garden in the park.

What was the last CD you bought?

Candi Staton

Have you ever done anything for charity?

Lots of benefit gigs.  I am doing the Secret Policeman's Ball at the Albert Hall on Saturday (4th oct).  I expect good care when I am cancer ridden.

What are you working on at the moment?

8 Out of 10 Cats (Channel 4, Thurs 10pm) and I have a DVD out on November 16th Live at the Hammersmith Apollo.  It will be at all the usual outlets.

Thank you for your time Sean.
