Hello Barnes,

My name is Esther de Groot and I am YourLocal London editor.  I have been living in our area for the last four years and am currently living in the Royals (or little - little Chelsea) in East Sheen. Like so many of us, I too love this part of London passionately for its green spaces, character, independents shops and easy access to central London. I would go as far as to say that it isn’t easy to beat a stroll along the river to Barnes High Street and Church Road for some shopping before moving on to the Wetland centre or the Old sorting Office on the pond for a tea.

YourLocal London is a website that helps people like you and me to get more out of our local area. The way we do this is by compiling information by local people who live in the local community. Rather than producing bland statistical data we actually voice local issues, events and knowledge of the community in the form of a dynamic constantly evolving website. Therefore, when visiting the YourLocal London site you can be assured that you will be fully made aware of the local activity in your community.

My role (to name a few) is to keep you up to date with the main events taking place in Barnes, what the local businesses and voluntary organisations have to offer and for those with a keen interest in their neighbours and fellow Barnites I will be highlighting those residents who make Barnes what it is today, a vibrant social community.

You, in turn, can inform others about a local event that you might be organising or need volunteers for, recommend a restaurant or shop you visited the day before or, keep others up to date with any new developments concerning local issues or movements in Barnes.  In short, together we can get to know our local community and make the most out of where we live.
