London's 'first suburb' - both in the sense of being just about the foremost and just about the closest in, is now also the best connected. Set between the open tracts of Regent's Park and Primose Hill and just a short cab-ride away from the West End. Despite being the in the middle of everything it seems to take its pace from the lazy summer sounds that come from Lord's Cricket Ground. The international set that St John's Wood attracts means that there are a high number of renters but there is also a very settled backbone. Instead of the more economical terraces that had spread across the centre of town, large and elegant Regency villas with gardens and coach houses, were built which remain the hallmark of St John's Wood today.
